Codeberg Bans AI Slop

I know this is old news, and the furor seems to have died down, but Codeberg has banned slop from AI products. One announcement is here: https://pivot-to-ai.com/2026/07/24/codeberg-bans-ai-slop-software-projects/#more-8559

The gist of the change is here:

You must not share projects that mostly consist of code written by “generative AI”-tools (including services such as Claude, OpenAI Codex). Such projects having an unclear copyright status (see requirements § 2 (1) 1 and § 2 (1) 3) and furthermore have little safeguards to ensure that they do not include harmful code (c.f. § 2 (1) 5).

I’m glad to have moved about 6 months ago all of the projects I care about from Github to Codeberg. Yeah, you’re not guarateed to be accepted for an account at Codeberg, but if you get accepted, at least your code is safe from being abused by the platform.

Apple Music Sucks

Once again I found that when I tried to access my iTunes library through Apple Music, Apple considers all music not purchased through their music store to be personal non grata. In other words, iTunes, which allowed burning of CDs to (usually) mp3s and then played them, was replaced when Apple switched from 32 bit apps to 64 bit ones. This switch was especially obnoxious because Apple Music was a bastard app, providing maybe 40% of the functionality of iTunes, the music playing part. This is besides the fact that Apple obliterated over 2,000 tracks from my library without permission.

This has started a journey to find a Unix program or platform to play my chosen music without fucking gatekeepers. So far I haven’t found a program in my sporadic search. I tried to get mpd, a seemingly complete music playing platform, on a Raspberry Pi. The Pi has little in the way of 1/0 ports, so I copied 250 plus gigabytes of music files (in excess of 20,000 tracks to a 512 GB SD card. Unfortunately, mpd doesn’t recognize the card, even though it’s definitely mounted on the Pi as VLC can play music from the card.

What’s the most annoying trope in books or movies?

Like the dude in Jurassic Park, the lone brainy programmer, this is the most overwrought replica of real life. Most programmers, coders really, aren’t very good at their profession, much less all-knowing gurus. Most programming shops have reams of cookie cutter junior programmers who can barely code their way out of a paper bag. And the few senior developers usually have to babysit the junior staff. Now, LLMS can take the place of junior staff, but the short-sighted mediocre managers fail to comprehend that it takes junior staff to sometimes graduate to senior staff, who mostly have a clue. And any shop that doesn’t have senior staff to check the AI slop generated by LLMs is just looking for trouble. You see it in the news on a weekly basis a story about how LLM code screws up royally.
